Once again I’m writing a Style Soundtrack about a song that’s not super new, but I can’t help myself! Ever since I heard “Cuddle Fuddle” by Passion Pit I’ve loved its unique synth sounds. They remind me of a mashup between Of Montreal and Arcade Fire with the crazy high vocals, special production effects, and big band sound.
In this outfit I tried to capture the essence of the song while at the same time just following my intuition, because that’s what the song reminds us to do. It sounds woefully cheesey, but there’s something so eager and nostalgic about the push and pull with the lyrics. One moment he wants his love, the next he says, “And I don’t want to see/ That you’re coming along with me.” I think everybody remembers their first love and the flood of emotions that accompany it, which this song captures perfectly.
I mixed whimsical romantic pieces with sharper utilitarian lines to mimic the songs duality. The dress symbolizes the first happy, freeing moments of new love, while the boots are heavy to mimic the trudging along when the relationship goes south. The black shrug and accessories finish off the outfit with a modicum of uncertainty while the rose clips symbolize a youthful, joyful vibe.
