Pantone Colour of the Year 2012: Tangerine Tango

Ah orange. As a fashion colour it's one I've been trying to ignore for the best part of a year (love it as an interior colour though) - there's only certain shades I look good in (burnt orange, neon, coral, red/orange) and it's not a particularly forgiving colour on the wrong skintone. But it's seeped into the sartorial subconscious, warmed me up to it a little bit and now it's going all out by being the colour of the year.

Tangerine Tango is a fairly wearable shade of orange thanks to it's hints of red, and works very well with the Seventies trends that are still prevalent through Spring 2012. I can't say it's my favourite colour of the year, ever, last years Honeysuckle is still doing it for me...but it could be worse! Any predictions for 2013? I'd like a nice chartreuse bordering on neon, or deep navy or nice coral!

Inspired? Honeysuckle - Pantone's Colour of the Year 2011

What's better than starting the new year with such a fun and vibrant colour? Honeysuckle is Pantone's Colour of the Year for 2011 and it's my favourite in awhile. Try as I might, I've never escaped my love for all things pink, and the great thing about this shade is it's wearability - blonde, brunette, black, white, anyone can pull off this colour (I personally love the fun clash of a red head wearing pink)

The shade itself - which is so hard to match in monitors (I used the Pantone swatch to create the 'Honeysuckle' graphic at the top of this post) isn't quite as sugary as these examples would give you, but it's the same family - the honeysuckle proper is a little more yellow toned resulting in a slightly more mature varation of the same thing. But hell, it's pink, wear it and love it!

Pantone describes the colour as being energizing "honeysuckle lifts spirits and imparts confidence to meet life's ongoing challenges" and we could all use a little of that this year, wouldn't you agree?!

Pantone Fall 2010 Colour Report - Golden Glow

For the last part of our Pantone Fall Fashion Colour Report we're taking a look at a colour that is everything it says on the can, Golden Glow. This sunshiny shade is the perfect balance between orange and yellow and is reminiscent of that soft afternoon light I remember when I lived in a place where fall (or autumn rather) actually existed (rather than record temperatures of 113 - sigh) 

Worn monochromatically this shade is very 60's Mod, a look I'm not sure I entirely endorse, however break it up with denim or khaki and you're much more my speed with a Seventies style that definitely requires some wavy hair. Alternatively, for the less than brave, as with any of the brighter shades this season, a nice pop of colour in an accessory such as a purse or shoes (there's nothing like yellow shoes - I own four pairs - they weirdly go with everything!) and you're made!

Pantone Fall 2010 Colour Report - Lagoon

As I'd imagine you know by now, turquoise was/is Pantone's colour of the year, meaning it's prescence has been apparent through the Spring/Summer collections and it remains through Fall.

Lagoon, a deep variation on the turquoise shade is the perfect tone for Fall. Jewel like in it's intensity, I don't really recommend this as a head to toe look, as always with these colour report posts, the outfit pictured above is for illustrative purposes only. Keep it subtle using it as a pop of colour in accessories, like a bag or amazing shoes or go all out with a statement dress like the one pictured above, but wear it now, with the plethora of muted colours (albeit some bright ones) coming in for Spring/Summer next year turquoise will be taking a back seat.
