So the Golden Globes have been and gone already, and I had a blast tweeting away with some of my favourite tweeple as the stars made their way down the red carpet. For the first time, in what feels like a long time, the red carpet was fantastically exciting. Fashion was everywhere, and even when someone got it wrong, it was almost like they got it right (I'm talking about you Helena Bonham Carter, NEVER change, you're fantastic the way you are)
It was a relief after putting myself out there in my Golden Globes predictions to see I was right! (I mean there isn't a lot of science to it - just knowing what was in the Spring collections) Neutral shades, pale greys, barely there pinks and nudes were predominant with some breathtaking examples.
Dianna Agron wore one of my favourite designers this Spring, J Mendel, it's beauty was in it's simplicity and Dianna wore it very well, it was age appropriate and so fresh and pretty. Both Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Johansson opted for vintage inspired, lacy gowns by Jenny Packham and Elie Saab respectively and Modern Family's Julie Bowen was funny and gorgeous in Tadashi Shoji.
Sandra Bullock debuted bangs on the red carpet, and for me the jury is still out, it's funny, my Mum did nothing but whine about how she "couldn't see my pretty face" when I had my bangs...and now with Sandra, I think I see what she meant. Apparently they're clip on though, so the jury's still out for her too. As a side note... please be careful with the highlighter ladies, yes it makes you all glowy and dewy and "fresh" looking..but in the wrong place, under the wrong lights, it can make evn Sandra Bullock look like Michael Jackson.
Leighton Meester and Michelle Williams caught some Twitter slack for their choices, but I thought they both looked divine. Leighton Meester's, Burbery Prorsum gown was perfectly feminine and sexy in it's modest top and high slit skirt - an interesting balance and the perfect choice for someone young and fashion forward - I adored her Louis Vuitton purse and platform pumps. Michelle Williams wore Valentino, and the gorgeously girly dress, adorned with daisies (my favourite) fitted her style perfectly.
Anne Hathaway looked absolutely amazing in Armani Privé, it was such a different look for her, from top to toe she was just lovely. She pulled off the perfectly polished but undone hair and a showstopping dress that screamed "this. is. fashion". The only fault I could find was the nude 'figure-skater style' back, I wish there had been a choice by someone along the line to open this up and just go bare!
I also predicted some brighter shades of pink on the red carpet, and again, I was right (I mean c'mon girls...it's the colour of the year) Gorgeous actresses proved that this is still a hot colour and not just reserved for Barbie.
The clear winners for me were the sleek, minimalist numbers worn by Claire Danes and Emma Stone, both by Calvin Klein. Claire Danes looked modern, svelte but still feminine in this hot pink halter (which looked a lot more vibrant on the telly) and Emma Stone proved to be a complete knockout, in the peachy/coral number (again, it looked ten times as vibrant on the telly) looking modern with a touch of 60's bombshell. Calvin Klein, on these ladies, winning combos, and two of my overall favourites for the night.
Lea Michelle looked very pretty in Oscar de la Renta, and I'm officially in the "fan" camp of Julianne Moore's controversial Lanvin gown. I still haven't decided on Natalie Portman in Viktor and Rolf, yes the shape makes sense with the bump, yes the colour is hot right now...yes I'm inclined to enjoy it's whimsy...I think what I'm not liking is the fabric? It doesn't photograph well and the result looks cheap.
I was absolutely convinced that I had predicted black to be Golden Globes minor trend alongside pink, but I just re-read my post and apparently I opted out, maybe I thought the risk of being wrong was just too high (haha).
Well turns out it was a minor trend, with three outstanding examples in Julia Stiles in one shoulder ruffles by Romona Keveza (predominantly a Bridal designer who had hits with Julia and Christina Hendricks but some issues in Jennifer Love Hewitt) Piper Perabo in a classic Oscar de la Renta and sexy ponytail and Eva Longoria in Zac Posen, who looked sensational!
There were some ladies on the red carpet just doing their own thing and looking beyond hot doing it. Christina Hendricks looked fantastic in red, one shoulder ruffles by Romona Keveza, I love a redhead in red, but jeeze, there was not one good photo of her - stop scrunching up your face! I'm positively obsessed with Christina's personal pair of Golden Globes, but she does have competition in Sofia Vergara and her epic tits. Sofia finds herself on this list because she's Sofia, her dress was great, sure, but she'd look hot in anything.
Olivia Wilde (who had lots of Twitterers saying "don't know who she is but she looks great" she's in House and Tron people....) wore the most amazing Marchesa dress - and the most amazing crystal studded Louboutins which she was gracious enough to flash every now and then - she looked phenomenal - at first I took issue with her lacklustre hair but in retrospect, with so much going on I would have probably made the same choice.
Lastly January Jones decided to leave Betty Draper at home, again. Phwoar. This dress even prompted a call from Mr Style, "Did you see Betty's boobs?!" (I'm paraphrasing - but we have a thing for boobs in our house) The fire engine red, the cut outs, the fringing...wowza. This was made by Versace for January, it appeared on the runway in turquoise, but red is a much, much better choice.
So my overall favourites? There were so many...! January Jones in Versace, Eva Longoria in Zac Posen, Claire Danes and Emma Stone in Calvin Klein and Leighton Meester in Burberry Prorsum. There...just don't ask me to pick one!
