Spring is in the air. Despite the ash cloud from the volcano in Iceland apparently looming over the UK for the past week, the skies around my town have been perfectly blue, and perfectly pretty. It has not rained in a while and it feels and smells like spring is finally here. This week, my floral dresses and pretty vintage cardigans have been dug out from the back of my wardrobe and brought to the front, for my pretty, vintage spring wardrobe.
I've always had a thing for floral prints, and every time I go shopping, I always come back with something floral, whether it be a hair grip, a bag or a dress. I've noticed my accessories are also largely inspired by flowers and I have a lot of vintage jewelry from my great aunt. The spring, in my opinion, is the perfect time to wear vintage. I spent one afternoon this week, drinking early grey, and looking at old photographs of my grandmother and my great aunt, when they were in their teens and I was jealous at how perfect and pretty their clothes were. No body seems to make an effort any more when it comes to dressing, and I think it is the perfect time now, to take inspiration from your grandparents, hunt through their attics, find yourself some vintage clothes, and make an effort with dressing.
Ditch the blacks, and pull out the peaches, creams, rose pinks and whites. Revamp your makeup bag and ditch the dark eyeshadow and opt for au natural, buy yourself a peach lipstick and some rose blush. Spring is the perfect season to be inspired by.
I adore floral bralettes and they look fantastic under a chiffon blouse. The longline bras can be worn as outwear. A friend of mine wears hers over a plain white t-shirt and it looks beautiful! The cute little basket bags add a little vintage touch to an outfit. The Anthropologie shirt dress is so cute. Vintage silhouette but with a quirky frog print!
Inspire yourself this spring and ask your grandparents for photos of them in their youth, and take ideas and style point from other photographs. And if your grandparents are anything like mine and hoard absolutely everything, go through their attic and you never know what you will find.
